How can we ensure that all children get a fair start in life? Hear from our panel of experts and join in the Q&A afterwards.
About this event
It is widely recognised that the early years of a child’s life significantly impact their health and wellbeing across their entire lifespan. Indeed, health problems of all kinds in later life can be minimised if children can get a fair start in life, irrespective of their background. This seminar will look at how best to achieve this fair start, and how increasing health and mental health issues in children can be addressed equitably. A research paper on the subject will be provided by the Southern Policy Centre.
We are delighted to welcome an expert panel of speakers, who will share their thoughts and take part in a Q&A session. This will be chaired by Mary Edwards, Chair of the University Board of Governors and formerly Chief Executive of Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust.
- Steve Crocker OBE – Director of Children’s Services, Hampshire County Council
- Dr Julie Greer, Regional Coordinator for Family Hubs and Visiting Fellow University of Southampton
- Dr Nick Ward, Consultant Paediatrician and Medical Director for Family and Clinical Support Services, Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust.
This seminar is sponsored by Capsticks and is part of a series of annual seminars held by the University covering topical subjects. Previous seminars have explored key issues about health and wellbeing, including the crises in housing, health and social care and the climate emergency.
The seminar will be streamed live via MS Teams, for those who are unable to join us in person, and the link will be sent to all registered attendees.
